I think this is where matrix can have a place in the usage conversation (xmpp explicitly doesn't support encryption in MUCs and prosody specifically doesn't---and won't---support MIX, signal/telegram/whatsapp/discord/revolt aren't federated, technically irc *is* federated but also not really in the same way as matrix or xmpp like afaik I can't spin up my own irc server and communicate to a libera chat server) but matrix's encrypted group chats are kinda slow. I think jitsi meet also has e2ee group chats but not by default?

I feel like end-to-end encrypted federated group chats is a hard problem to solve
